SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA MAN FOUND NOT GUILTY OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND GUN CHARGES |

October 16, 2008: Twenty-two year old Darien Barber of Southwest Philadelphia was charged with Aggravated Assault and Weapons Offenses as a result of an incident which is alleged to have occurred on July 1, 2002 at 55TH and Litchfield Streets in South-West Philadelphia. The alleged victim testified that he was standing on the corner at the above location along with his cousin and several other men. He said that a White Ford Taurus pulled up to the corner and that Barber was the passenger in the vehicle. He stated that Barber, retrieved a silver and black handgun and approached him and opened fire, striking him in the left leg. At the trial held before Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes and a Philadelphia Common Pleas Jury, Perry deMarco, Sr. vigorously cross-examined the victim and later argued that his testimony identifying Barber as the shooter was not credible. The Jury agreed and found Mr. Barber not guilty of all charges. |
